WoodPig Press is a loose collective of creative freelancers, and the personnel on any particular project may differ. However, this is our core editorial team.

Dr Mark Matthews, Editor (Non-Fiction)

Mark Matthews is a social and economic historian, freelance researcher and editor from nowhere in particular.

Following his PhD on 18th century entrepreneurship in Wales, he has been widely published in the fields of modern British business history and Welsh maritime history. He is currently researching the historical links between Wales and the Maghreb.

A songwriter and musician with the band Dead Surf Country between 2006-12, and more recently guitarist for Swansea songwriter Anni Wall, he currently resides in Swansea with the author Jo Mazelis

Kayla Dougan, Editor (Fiction)

Kayla Dougan is a writer and freelance editor based in Glasgow, Scotland.

She has studied English Literature at the University of Glasgow, as well as a Master’s in Publishing Studies with a speciality in disability and accessibility in publishing. She enjoys freaky, unconventional literature, and spends her free time running a horror zine, Wanweird.

As well as editing for WoodPig, Kayla is currently a co-editor for Glasgow-based literary magazine ‘From Glasgow To Saturn‘.

Dr Gareth Southwell, Founder and Editor-in-Chief

Gareth Southwell is a writer, illustrator and philosopher from South Wales in the UK.

He’s been involved with philosophy for over thirty years, is the author of numerous books on the subject, and has a PhD on the topic of “death” (which has been read by exactly four people, including himself).

He also writes sci-fi and fantasy novels under the devious pseudonym Gareth J. Southwell, which are just thinly fictionalised versions of his PhD thesis, with most of the boring bits taken out and replaced with robots and people swearing in Welsh.

Aside from all that, he designs and illustrates books for a living, and is the founder and editor-in-chief of WoodPig Press.
