We live in a time of increasing dehumanisation. Obviously, at the forefront of this is AI, but it is a trajectory that we’ve been on for some time: the rise of social media, algorithm-driven content, tech monopolies, the profit-obsessed practices of big business, and so on.

WoodPig Press is committed to supporting those involved in the creative industries against these harmful developments – you can read our policies on all this here – but in summary, we want to support human values. This is not just about creativity, but treating people as individuals with their own values and goals, and not as a means to some other end (Kant would be proud!). In an era of ghosting, spam, click bait and trolling, we want to encourage human connection, courtesy, quality and meaning.

If you think that these are values you can get behind, and you don’t use AI for any creative purposes, you are welcome to help spread the word. Simply download the graphic below (right-click and “save as”) and display it on your website, social media, etc, providing a link back to this page so that others can find out about this too. If you let us know you’re doing this (via the website, on Substack, Threads, Instagram or BlueSky), then we may promote your human-made activities on our socials.

Obviously, we cannot vet everyone who uses the badge, and nor can we vouch for the services of those who do – it is a voluntary pledge, and our sharing or listing of your activities should not be taken as an endorsement. However, if you believe that someone is using the badge in bad faith (i.e. by masking their use of AI), then please let us know.

Supporting Human-Made Reviews

We would like to share the details of book reviewers who share our values. If you’re an author or publisher, please be aware that while we do some basic quality checking and to rule out spam, etc, we are not responsible for the services listed below, and their listing here should not be taken as verification or endorsement. We just want to support human-made things – reviews, books, illustration and book covers. If you think the practices of any reviewer listed below or who uses our badge contravenes our values (e.g. the use of AI), then please let us know. We reserve the right to remove such listings.

If you are a book reviewer who shares our values, and want to request to be listed below, please fill in this form.
